Kinema Junpo Special Horror Issue 1969 - Ed. Shoji Otomo

$60.00

Kinema Junpo: Mystery and Horror, published in 1969, is a special issue devoted to horror, the supernatural and monster cinema - compiled by the hugely influential Japanese editor and writer Shoji Otomo, whom many of you may know as Dr. Kaiju.

Otomo was a key figure in the development of Japan's 1960s SF, kaiju and horror publishing, known for his highly visual approach to popular culture, combining film stills, illustrations, diagrams and encyclopaedic information. This issue brings together material on Japanese and international horror cinema, monsters and the supernatural, with contributions from writers including Michio Tsuzuki and film critic Nagaharu Yodogawa.

Has some beautiful gravure printing, with double sided poster, making this an excellent example of the strange, richly illustrated visual culture surrounding horror and monster films in 60s Japan.
